Pumping station servicing and maintenance

A pumping station has working parts and controls that need ongoing attention. Follow the product instructions and agree an inspection schedule with a competent engineer based on usage and site conditions.

What an engineer may check

A service can include the pump’s operation, level-control movement, valves, accessible pipework, cables, control equipment and alarm. The cover, frame and safe service access also matter. The exact work depends on the equipment and symptoms; ask for a written record of the checks and any recommended repairs.

What you can monitor without opening the chamber

  • Note any change in running frequency, unusual noise or repeated alarm.
  • Keep access to the cover and control equipment clear.
  • Keep the operating instructions, order details and previous service records together.
  • Make sure people using the property know what should not be flushed.

Avoid avoidable blockages

Do not flush wipes, nappies, sanitary products or cloths, and keep fats and oils out of the drain. A solids-handling pump is not a waste disposal machine. If the system repeatedly blocks, have the cause assessed rather than repeatedly resetting it.

Responding to a high-level alarm

Reduce water use and arrange help. An alarm indicates that attention is needed; it does not clear the fault. Do not enter the chamber, reach into the pump or work on live electrical equipment. If the station serves the whole property, tell the engineer so they can understand the effect of the failure.

Replacing a part

Identify the model and relevant ratings before buying a replacement. A fitting that looks similar may have a different connection, and a float switch must suit its electrical and control duty. Browse parts and accessories and send us photographs and measurements if you need help.

Support and warranty

All our products carry a five-year warranty. Contact us about a suspected defect or to discuss what product information you need for an engineer. This advice page does not promise a booked service or emergency attendance; any service arrangement must be confirmed separately. Contact Sewage Station Direct.
